Smart Beginnings 7 Mindful Games for Young Learners
Kids with Laptop

Written by Amplify for AI Shield Canada

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly prevalent in our daily lives. From recommendation algorithms to virtual assistants, AI has become an indispensable part of modern technology. As such, it is essential that children are introduced to AI from an early age so that they can understand its capabilities and limitations.

If you're looking for a fun and engaging way to introduce your child to the world of AI, these 7 kid-friendly AI-generated online games are for you!

Quick, Draw! is a free online game developed by Google. The concept is simple: players draw an object or idea and then artificial intelligence interprets their drawings. It is comparable to Pictionary, with only 20 seconds to draw. Prompts range from simple (like “hand,” or more complicated, like “animal migration.”)

*Impressively, the AI learns from each drawing, improving its ability to guess correctly in the future.

ArtBot teaches players AI basics by having them recover stolen art. In the first part, players use supervised learning to train their AI helper to recognize specific art objects. They classify training data, adjust parameters, and observe how well the helper identifies objects in testing data.

In the second part, players navigate dungeons using reinforcement learning to find and collect stolen art. They guide the AI, assign rewards, and optimize settings for optimal object retrieval.

Once named Mitsuku, Kuki is an AI buddy created to befriend people in the metaverse. It's a champ, winning the Loebner Prize five times (in 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019), making it a world record holder in chatting like a human.

You can chat with Kuki in different places like an online portal, Facebook Messenger, Twitch group chat, Telegram, Kik Messenger, and Discord. It used to be on Skype too, but the developer took it off.

Kuki AI is more than just chatting; it's an AI tool made to entertain. It offers a chat feature and can even be expanded by developers to create cool avatars. So, if you want a virtual friend in the metaverse, Kuki's got your back!

Designed by educators, game developers, and AI experts, ArtBot aims to boost AI literacy in primary and secondary education. The game encourages critical thinking, allowing players to explore, experiment, and reflect on AI principles.

Here's the simple breakdown: Take a picture to hear how to say it in another language. Users can snap pictures of things they see, and Google's machine learning, Cloud Vision, and Translation APIs work together to automatically translate them into different languages. The uses are practical and diverse—imagine translating menus, logos, or product labels in a foreign language. (Watch out DuoLingo!)

Shadow Art is a web browser game that introduces players to the fun world of AI and shadow puppetry. Developed using TensorFlow.js, a library that makes it easy to build and train machine learning models in a web browser, the game brings the offline joy of shadow puppetry to the online space.

In the game, you use your hands to create one of twelve zodiac animals from the lunar cycle in front of your laptop or phone camera. Your challenge is to match your hand to the on-screen diagram, transforming the "shadow" of your hands into a puppet animal. But here's the twist – it's an interactive game with a time limit. You have just twenty seconds to form each animal, aiming to complete the full lunar cycle as quickly as possible. Give it a try for a playful blend of AI and creative fun!

FreddieMeter is a singing analysis app that uses machine learning models trained on Freddie Mercury's original studio recordings. Developed by Google Research, the models assess your pitch, melody, and timbre, comparing your vocal style to Freddie's.

It's important to note that FreddieMeter is still experimental, and external factors like your microphone, speakers, and background noise can influence your score. Achieving a perfect 100 might be challenging, as scientists are still unraveling the unique qualities of Freddie's voice.

What's reassuring is that all the analysis occurs on your device, ensuring your vocals remain private. So, go ahead, have fun, and let FreddieMeter provide a unique insight into your singing skills!

Emoji Scavenger Hunt is an entertaining and experimental game that engages players in a unique challenge. Here's how it works: the game displays an emoji, and you have a limited time to locate the real-world object that corresponds to it. The twist is that you extend your time by pointing your phone camera at the discovered object.

The game starts with familiar items like a shoe, book, or even your own hand to get you comfortable. As you progress, the emojis become more challenging, requiring you to find objects like a banana, a candle, or even a scooter. It's a delightful and interactive way to explore your surroundings while having fun with emojis.
